2020 ACS Sioux Valley Awards
We, unfortunately, had to cancel our annual awards banquet that would have taken place in April 2020. However, we hope to resume this tradition soon!

2021 SDSU SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING FIAR
Our section was happy to support the 2021 SDSU Science and engineering fair. We are so proud of the winners Naomi Mellema and Amaya Van Essen from Unity Christian High School. Noah Bronner and Landon Hofmeyer came in second place with Mckenna Kocmich in third. We hope all the participants had a great time sharing their projects with the community. Great work!
3RD ANNUAL (VIRTUAL) RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM
While the image to the left is a throwback to your 2019 Research symposium, this fall our chapter adapted to the "new normal" and hosted a webinar! Students, postdocs, and faculty recorded 15-minute oral presentations or 5-minute pop-talks. Attendees watched the seminars ahead of time and tuned in for panel discussions live on November 15th. Special thanks to all those who attended and presented!
PROGRAM IN A BOX
The ACS Program in a Box took place on February 25th. This year's theme was "The Future of Food". Both Augustana and USD hosted events where students go together for chemistry, food, and fun. If you would like to participate or host your own program in a box in the future, contact us for more information.

NATIONAL CHEMISTRY WEEK ILLUSTRATED POEM CONTEST
During national chemistry week, we sponsored an illustrated poem contest the winner advanced to the National Illustrated Poem Contest. Prizes were given to winners in categories K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12 grade.
FALL RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM
On September 28th, we held our annual Fall Research Symposium at Ode to Food and Drink in Sioux Falls. Poster presentations were made by both undergraduate and graduate students. Thanks to those who presented and to the judges for volunteering!

CHEMIST'S CELEBRATE EARTH WEEK (CCEW)
The Chemist's Celebrate Earth Week (CCEW) will be April 21-27, 2019 with the theme "Take Note: The Chemistry of Paper". Further details about the illustrated poem contest will be shared in February. Additional information here.
ELECTION RESULTS ARE IN
Elections results for the 2019 year: Chair – Melissa Tille, Chair Elect – Pere Miró, Secretary – Bess Vlaisavljevich, Treasurer – Jeff Jung. Dr. Paula Mazzer will be our outreach coordinator and Samantha Montalvo will be the NWC/CCED coordinator. Jetty and Adam will continue to serve in councilor positions.
1ST ANNUAL UNDERGRADUATE AND GRADUATE RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM
The First Annual Graduate and Undergradute Research Symposium was held on Saturday, September 22nd at the POET Research Auditorium (4615N. Lewis St., Sioux Falls SD 57104) from 11am to 5 pm. It included student posters and judging, lunch, tours of POET, and our annual Sioux Valley Meeting. It was well attended and we offer many thanks to Chair Andrew Strandjord and Chair-Elect Melissa Tille for a delightful afternoon. Many, many thanks also to all of our great judges - thank you so much!!!
POSTER AWARDS ANNOUNCED
We are delighted to announce 3 graduate winners. 1st place George Opoku-Kusi (Dr. Adam Hoppe SDSU), 2nd place Sonalie Pandey (Dr. Douglas Rayney SDSU), and 3rd place Balawanthrao Jadhav (Dr. Douglas Rayney SDSU). We are also pleased to announce our undergraduate winners. 1st place Marie Anderson, Ellie Ronning, Lexi Synder (Dr. Jared Mays, Augustana), 2nd place Peter Sanchez (Augustana), and 3rd place Clara Kirvold (Dr. Bess Vlaisavljevich USD). Winners received travel funds to attend national or midwest regional meetings of the ACS. Congratulations!!
